In Days To Come: Unlearn the Ways of War / Advent Recap

To the believer, the season of Advent means so many things. In the many Christmas messages that will precede Christmas day, one theme should underlie every word and every image depicted of our King. God came to us, in the form of us, to be like us, and to restore all parts of us.

The birth of our Savior was not the end of all chaos and fighting, rather, it was an announcement that Jesus came not only to restore our peace with God, but our peace with one another. The Holy Spirit reminds us daily that he has come to be an advocate for everyone, not just the people we favor. In this place, we begin to rediscover a world in which we cease the fighting and the need to be our own king because our perfect King has already come.

Isaiah 2 invites us into the holy of holies, the highest of all, and into the very light of God. Pastor Brandon used this scripture to remind us that “when we learn the ways of God, we unlearn the ways of war. We can actually begin to cultivate the very things we used to destroy.” Nothing but God in the flesh allows us to think redemptively about each other and creation.

In the days to come,
walk in the light
of the days to come.

Using the above recap or the content below, gather a few friends over the phone or a good cup of coffee to talk about what Advent means to you and even how this past weekend impacted you. We’re calling these groups Advent Huddles as we gather in creative and intentional ways during this busy season.
